Lending Library (Bill Gathan)

New O'Reilly & Associates books brought by Bill G. were "MySQL & mSQL" (checked out by Joel Meulenberg), "Mastering Algorithms with Perl" (checked out by Matt Heusser), "The Perl CD Bookshelf" (checked out by Steve Johnson), and "Webmaster in a Nutshell" (checked out by Rick Siner).

Matt Heusser returned "Developing ASP Components" and Jeff Williams now has it checked out.

Joel Meulenberg re-checked-out "Programming Web Graphics with Perl & GNU Software" as no one else was interested in it.

Junket Report - O'Reilly Open Source Conference 3.0 in Monterey, CA   (Bill Ott)

Noteworthy point:  Tom Christiansen is both an excellent technologist and an excellent presenter.

Also, if you attend these sorts of conferences, there's a good chance that the core people behind the products will be there too (e.g.- primary author of PHP was in back of room during a presentation and was able to address the question of another attendee).

The O'Reilly Open Source conference will be in Monterey, CA again next summer (2000).   While you're there, be sure to check out the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Discuss ideas for next month's and future meetings:

• Steve Johnson proposed some kind of group activity (need more discussion on the email list).
• Joel Meulenberg proposed something that would demonstrate the use of matrix math (from Mastering Algorithms with Perl) and production of animated GIFs (from Programming Web Graphics with Perl & GNU Software) - probably some kind of animated 3D thingy.
• Other ideas:  CPAN module.
